Keynotes

Andrew Leigh MP

Andrew Leigh is the Assistant Minister for Productivity, Competition, Charities and Treasury, and Federal Member for Fenner in the ACT. Prior to being elected in 2010, Andrew was a professor of economics at the Australian National University. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard, having graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in Arts and Law. Andrew is a past recipient of the Economic Society of Australia’s Young Economist Award and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences.

Dr Emi Tanaka

Emi Tanaka is a statistician, the Australian National University lead for the Analytics for The Australian Grains Industry Project, and Editor-in-Chief of the R Journal. She has a passion for data science and open-source software, which is evident across her work spanning experimental design, mixed-effects models, data visualisation, emerging analytics (machine/deep learning and large language models) and developing better statistical workflows, practice and tools. Since completing her PhD in statistics in 2015, Emi has been recognised as an expert and leader in her field, delivering numerous invited talks both nationally and internationally and being awarded the Statistical Society of Australia President’s Award for Leadership in Statistics.
